Founded in 1961 when two business men, Mr E. Harrop and Mr F. Schofield, came together to form Harfield Components Ltd. During the 1960s, a leading plastics raw material manufacturer, Bayer, approached us with a new material – polycarbonate. Its ’unique property’ of being virtually unbreakable lent itself to tableware.
The 1970s saw Harfield gradually introduce a range of plates and bowls in a variety of colours. Back then, our main business was contract work with the NHS, supplying various items including jugs, jug lids and tumblers.
By the 1980s, we had begun to talk to school meals organisers, and these discussions led to the introduction of the Harfield school meal tray. The overwhelmingly positive response to the meal tray led Harfield to re-focus its business towards increased collaboration with the school meals service.
By the early 2000s we had developed our products further by introducing a range of patterns and textured finishes. We continue to supply our products to the healthcare sector and in addition, we helped to pioneer the introduction of an antibacterial range of products.
Step forward to today. Harfield are still an independent company. Harfield’s products remain manufactured in the UK and marketed across the world. Our new ranges now also incorporate products from our European partners.
